Push International and Padres y Compadres (a Mexican children’s therapy organization) work collaboratively at our Mazatlan Hub. The dream began when Rita Correa Meraz, a mother of a young child with a disability, saw the unmet need for children’s therapy. Steve Oliver (Push International co-founder) saw the unmet need of mobility equipment and sustainable services for children and adults with disabilities. The two began working together to construct the Mazatlan Hub and the dream became a reality.
Construction began at the Hub in 2003 when USA donors, local Mexican government officials and Mexican businesses including Pacifico Beer, and Emerald Bay Hotel and Resort generously donated a city block worth of land to create the facility.

In 2004 the children’s rehabilitation center was built. It is a large fully equipped clinic where children from the local community come to receive services 5 days per week.
-
In 2005 the kitchen was built and enabled the clinic to stay open longer throughout the day and feed children that receive therapy all day long.
-
In 2006 the wheelchair repair and maintenance shop, cyber café and sewing center were constructed. The horse arena and stalls also went up in late 2006 where children from the community are able to receive horse therapy 5 days per week.
-
In 2007 two dormitories were constructed to house teams of volunteers who come to work at the Hub. A large outdoor covered brick patio was also constructed during the summer of 2007 which is now used as a meeting place for volunteers, feeding area for the children and a sensory integration therapy area.
-
In early 2008 four more dormitories were constructed to house teams of volunteers. An occupational therapy and speech therapy room was added to complete the gamut of therapy interventions available at the Hub. In the fall of 2008 Push International will be moving into the newly constructed D building on the shared campus which will house a new wheelchair repair and maintenance shop.
