I currently live in Tucson, Arizona. I have always been very active in the disabled community because I have a disability myself, that being cerebral palsy. Since college I have been extremely proactive in working with organizations, volunteering and professional, that work towards advancing the independence of those with disabilities. Because I have been successful in becoming independent myself, I do my best to help others do the same by giving them my advice as a mentor.
My passion for technology has assisted me in becoming even more independent, and I now use the knowledge I have attained to help those in need. I work with individuals with disabilities in setting up and showing them how to use technology. As an example, one of clients has an oral-motor disability uses a computer with a voice output (communication device) to communicate. By adapting a headset, she is able to connect her communication device to the phone, which allows her to independently work as a receptionist. This is just one of the many ways technology can enable someone to live productively and independently.
I like to think that I bring not only my passion for advancing the independence of people with disabilities, but also my technology skills to Push. I currently handle the website, the e-newsletter, and putting together a team of volunteers in Tucson to collect and distribute wheelchairs in Mexico.
