May 2009
Team 11 was scheduled to arrive in Mazatlan in May 2009. Due to the Swine Flu outbreak, the team was rescheduled to attend in January 2010 instead. However, two directors, Jeff Lair and Bree Lair, decided to execute the trip with our Mexican staff and supporters. The two had a wonderful week with the Mexican team. They unloaded a container of mobility equipment, approximately 200 wheelchairs, and miscellaneous wheelchair components. The specialized components will allow Push International to make special and personalized adaptations and modifications to recipient’s equipment. The small team held a wheelchair distribution on our shared campus, delivering equipment to over 30 recipients in need. During the second day of distribution, the team was able to work with 5 children with cerebral palsy and their families. The children were given specialized wheelchairs and therapy equipment during the distribution. The team also made contact with the Mexican Red Cross, Mazatlan General Hospital, Centro de Esperanza and other clinics in the area to increase Push’s ability to reach deeper into more pueblos and access more people with disabilities in need.
