August 4- 11, 2007
A second group of seventeen volunteers came from Houston, Texas August 4th -11th.
The team worked hard, waking up early every morning and staying up late at night to finish everything that needed to be done. The team worked hard to get the patio outside of the kitchen started and even helped to mix the concrete to make an extension to the sidewalk next to the patio.
The team was able to visit 3 out of the 4 feedings centers Push had been working with that summer. They also put on an hour and a half service at the prison. The team was able to visit three different places in the community to distribute rice, beans, oil and clothing to some of the poorest areas in Mazatlan. We had two very successful wheelchair distributions giving out a total of 26 wheelchairs. 11 of the chairs that they gave out were in a town Push had never been to before, about 45 minutes north of Mazatlan, called Marmol.
The most memorable seating for everyone on the team though was a girl named Milagros (Miracle) that they seated at the Hub. She was the very last girl they sat that day and she had waited since the beginning of the distribution to get her wheelchair. The team worked hard until 9:00 in the evening to finish and make sure her chair was as perfect for her as the first person they sat that day. She was the sweetest most energetic 7 year old girl and talked to everybody that would listen to her. She wanted a pink chair but was just as happy when she found out that her seat belt was rainbow colored. She was also very excited about the wheelchair Barbie that we were able to give her. The last thing she did before leaving was give the biggest hug to one of the team members and thanked him for the chair, said that it was the best gift she had ever received.
